Miscellaneous Species
What are they?
Miscellaneous species are a way for staff to introduce playable sub-classes that will not play main major roles on board but can still be fun plot-fodder-type characters. They will be introduced as staff sees fit or in the case of class-requests that we don't feel fit the site enough to be a 'main class'. This may also serve as a way to transform requested character-types by members into fun sub-classes. Furthermore, sub-classes may not be created as your first character, a player must purchase a sub-class ticket through the Gem Shop.

Each sub-class will come with extremely brief background information and power-types. It is up to the player to flesh them out further.

Shades
Sub-Class: Color Wight

OOCly, Shades are most similar to vampires. However, vampires do not fit with Black Prism lore and as a result we have created Shades for use on Black Prism after vampires were requested. Shades were created January 2016 as a collaboration of staff: Delphi, Indigo, Marie and Ziengale.

A 'Shade' is a unique transformation of a color wight. Typically, color wights do not survive very long after breaking the halo. In the case of Shades, they have survived long enough that their luxin has been completely drained and the feeling of insanity has abated. While they don't return to their complete mental capacity, they do regain most of their clarity and realize the repercussions of their previous actions.

This evolution takes place rapidly over several weeks once its approached. A Shade has had all of their luxin drained from them, and it seems that this process has had physical repercussions. Their skin is more pale and their eyes are extremely sensitive (since they have no luxin protection, eyes typically appear pale if any color at all), thus making walking in sunlight potentially painful. While sun doesn't kill a Shade, it's extremely uncomfortable. They develop a single set of permanent fangs and they have not completely lost the ability to manipulate light--now they gain the ability to meld into shadows and become almost completely invisible (even in daylight a shadow can hide a Shade). A Shade does not require the drinking of blood to survive, they are very mortal, but their luxin lifeforce having been drained from them also appears to have extended their natural lives. If a color wight makes it to become a Shade, they are more likely to live to over 150 years if not killed intentionally.

Although they live normal mortal lives, it appears as if the fangs have a purpose. A Shade has the ability to drink the blood of a drafter and gain their luxin powers for a short period of time. Drinking from a drafter allows the Shade to draft from the moon much more strongly than that of the sun. The luxin is weaker but this also allows a Shade to draft colors previously untouched by the color wight. Additionally, the Shade gains the proficiency the drafter they drank from had (drank from expert drafter, draft expert luxin). This effect typically only lasts approximately 24 hours, and the Shade is susceptible to color sickness once more. A Shade is not required to kill their victim to gain this ability.

In tandem to the ability to manipulate shadows and drink blood, a Shade has also gained the ability of Compulsion. It typically requires eye contact and is typically used to control a drafter from which the Shade will feed but it has multiple purposes. Compulsion effects last for a variable amount of time, but usually not more than twelve hours depending on the magical strength of the victim.

Simple Explanation
A Shade most closely resembles a vampire of lore. They are weakened by sunlight, pale, live longer lives, manipulate shadows, drink blood and have the ability to compel a person into their bidding. They are mortal and can be killed by normal means, and eat and drink normal food and liquid. Shades are not undead, at least not to anyone's knowledge though the original incarnation of 'wight' would indicate otherwise. Shades are not affected by: holy water, hollow ground, garlic, magical barriers where they have to be invited in, and do not catch fire when in sunlight.

Gargoyles
Sub-Class: Shapeshifters

OOCly, Gargoyles are a unique vir infection that the species learned to control centuries ago. This was a prize offered to the site from topsite voting. Gargoyles were created April 2016 as a collaboration of staff: Delphi, Indigo, Marie and Ziengale.

In the middle ages in Europe, specifically France, 'witches' were feared. The populous believed that evil ran rampant in the world, and they turned to their leaders for protection. The Spectrum, The Sa'Kage, and Religion. At this point in history the meisters were well known. History got it wrong calling them witches. They were powerful and it was getting to their heads. Eventually, the became hunted.

It was due to the bounty on the head of any meister, dead or alive, they decided to go into hiding. To fade into history and become a myth for their own protection. They were successful until Goddard in 2015.

In order to safely go into hiding, construct meister's decided to make gargoyles. The literal versions that were found all over Europe in the middle ages. Human's believed they were a gift from the gods to protect them. Many myths and legends speaks of gargoyles as protectors, that they have the abilities to ward off evil. Specifically the 'witches'. The meisters encouraged these rumors. They sent out meister's with little vir markings to spread the knowledge of what the gargoyles could do. Eventually, the meisters appeared to die out. Thanks to the gargoyles.

Little did human's know, they were reporting back to the mesiters, and helping keep them hidden. At this point in history the gargoyles were simple constructs, doing the bidding of the meisters that were simply trying to stay alive. Till the Ceur'caelestos, who wielded The Blade of Heaven, stepped in.

No one is sure why this ancient being decided to step in. Maybe it was because the gargoyles had been mindless servants for so long she decided to help out. It was their rebirth.

The gargoyles were no longer mindless constructs. They were, at their core, stone animals, but could take human form in order to walk among the people that loved them. Free at last, and fully alive. The future was wide open for them.

With the blessing they received, the gargoyles could control the vir. They could reproduce, which would only make more gargoyles, or they could choose a worthy human to become a gargoyle. The species take protecting the world from any evil seriously. After all, Ceur'caelestos chose them specifically. In order to be chosen, the person must live up to their ideals. They expect honor, loyalty, and the desire to protect those that can't protect themselves.

Gargoyles until recently weren't thought to be alive. They still live perched on buildings, mainly old churches. They come in many shapes and mixture of animals. It wasn't till the Ceur'caelestos began to walk in Lochstone, that they decided to stop hiding.

This species is tight knit and like a family. The group is called a brood. There aren't many gargoyles in general, and only a few groups exist in the world. It is rare for a gargoyle to live outside of the brood, but happens on occasion. The groups tend to be small.

All gargoyles have two forms. Their natural stone form and human form. They can't stand being outside of their stone form for long and typically need to spend at least one night perched somewhere. While in gargoyle form, they are fragile. Stone shatters after all.

They are all able to ward off 'evil' spirits, but most spirits in general avoid the gargoyles. As protectors they are able to throw up invisible shields to stop injury and sometimes psychic attacks.

Simple Explanation
A gargoyle is a type of shapeshifter that at it's core is stone, and slips into human form to blend in. In their stone state they are easier to break, but share similar strengths as shapshifters in human form. (heighten senses, strength, less likely to get sick, and a longer lifespan) They are required to spend at least one night a week in their stone form. They are able to move in their normal form, however it is slower, and if someone tips them over... they will likely shatter.
