Breaking News!
  • FO: Tragedy strikes Lochstone again, in a devastating attack by the once quiet Forgotten Ones. Rrumors fly that both sides of Lochstone knew something like the attack would happen - and did nothing to prevent it.
  • FO: Spectrum Leaders hid in bunker, the South taking up arms while Blackguards flooded the streets to fight back. Restless stirrings remain in the city, and their faith in either powers of the North and South. Cont.
  • FO: Latest Report stands, the Chromeria Dormitories, Chromeria Blackguard Training Rooms, West Specter Dollhouse, Live Rose Mall, Elephant Butte Hotel, Jerry's Bail Bonds, Loch and Dock Market all destroyed by FO.
  • City repairs have been underway since quiet fell upon the city.(ICly all repairs shall be completed March 1st and on).
  • Shock still remains during repairs as people try to stand back up on their feet. People pour in from out of city to assist, funds flow from numerous fundraisers and benefactors. But how sincere is the support? Or is it all a play to profit from misery.
  • Paige Bradley and Jaxon Press seen at Blood Drive soon after FOA. Both refused to answer any questions or concerns regarding recent events in the city.
  • Rumors abound, reports find Blackguards seen in the South. Restless murmurings across Lochstone since FOA. Who can be trusted?
  • Love is in the air! Rumor has it that the esteemed Head Blackguard to the Orange was seen playing 'hide the sausage' with a handsome young man - in an Impala no less! Can't say they weren't rolling in style. Wonder how Luxlady Orange feels about this.
  • The New Orange has appeared ill in public, is her new position too much for her already? Rumors fly about suspected condition.
  • Things still rocky in Lochstone, but Cupid's Carnival was not deterred despite hiccups. Blind dates aplenty, wonder who's going to be naughty, who's going to be nice. Any drunken weddings or such surprises?

The Guide to Everything Black Prism
Welcome and Plot/Setting introduction!
Alright! You've decided to check us out! That's fantastic! I'm excited that you at least decided to read some of the information. Delphi worked really hard in translating these two sets of high fantasy novels written by Brent Weeks into something that any RPer could get into. While this information might be difficult to understand initially, we promise we can help you adapt and get used to it. It's a very unique setting. We would be technically an alternate reality modern fantasy fandom RPG, but that's a mouthful, so we're just an AU fandom. The setting is modern day, modern technology with the added pizzazz of magic-created weaponry, swords and whatever else you'd like to use! The RPG is set into a mythological bustling city in Washington state called Lochstone. For more detailed, or flourished information regarding the plot line and setting please take a look at that in Plot & Setting.
The whole shebang
Alright, so now that we've grabbed you with the exciting plot and setting of modern day fantasy with a unique take on magic (because I am so excited about that myself), let's get you started! Become acquainted with the Rules, there aren't many but they are important.

Registering
Most of the information is available to guests. If you've decided to stay with us, please register an OOC alias. Everything OOC should be posted as this alias (including applications), and even if your account hasn't been fully validated you should have access to posting in The Foundry (where all finished applications are submitted) and Unfinished. That way you don't have to wait for staff to approve your account!

Every character a player has should have their own account, and you can make that account any time in the character development process. It's recommended you do this after the character is made, because we understand the sometimes characters just decide to randomly change their own names halfway through an application!

All registered names outside of the OOC alias should be a full name FIRST LAST, where applicable, no middle. If you're unsure if its applicable, feel free to ask!

Making a character
Making a character is super important to all of us in this hobby, this is the entire reason we play! We want to experience worlds, develop histories and personalities, take unique spins with plot lines, everything. So, here on Black Prism, we have a number of different character types available for play to explore a variety of different avenues. While the Powers & Information section has more detailed information to look over, here we'll step you through making a character to make it easy.

First you need to decide if you want to make someone beholden to the Sa'Kage (aka. the Shadow), an international crime syndicate that has just been too large to stop despite all efforts by local law enforcement as well as their local competition the Chromeria, or if your character is affiliates with the Chromeria, an organization (and a school) with their hands in so many governments no one really knows who's running what any more. The Chromeria trains Drafters, unique magically-inclined individuals that use light and particular colors on the color spectrum to produce physical manifestations called luxin. But it is not just the Chromeria that has all the magic wielders, oh no, the Sa'Kage have their own share... only their called the Talented, and their affinities are closer to nature.

There is no good versus evil in Lochstone, Washington. Instead it's agenda versus agenda. Both sides are hungry for the same thing: power. It's just a matter of methods at this point.

If you choose either side you are not required to only play within that territory, you can see a Map for some landmarks of areas. Normal people walk around, and while there is conflict between the two sides, we're sure friends can be found as well. Just because someone is a drafter doesn't mean their not just as fed up with the Chromeria as the Sa'Kage.

If you join the Chromeria
If your character joins the Chromeria, they are a drafter! Congratulations! They have the ability to use the visible (and sometimes invisible) color spectrum to manifest a physical, magical, substance called luxin! The Chromeria is also a school. It is not uncommon for students to extend their stays well into their early thirties to learn everything the Chromeria has to offer. It is also common for students to become teachers themselves, or gain jobs within the city but staying close to the Chromeria. Drafters are prized people internationally, either as entertainment or advisers. Their particular brand of magic is rather enthralling. For detailed information on what drafters are, can be, and where they come from, please feel free to see the in depth information found in drafters. (All the links in this section are the same link to Drafter information).

Drafters rely on light and the refraction of it off of certain colors in their environment. No light, no magic. Very few drafters can draw enough of a color they wield at night (not enough light for refraction), sub-red and superviolet tend to be exceptions to this generalization.

So what kind of drafter can you be?

Monochrome
Bichrome
A monochrome is a drafter that can wield one color on the color spectrum. A player may choose one color from the seven available, found at the bottom of the page here. A monochrome can be a student, a teacher, a basic employee at the Chromeria, a Blackguard (explained in the same link), a government liaison, a Sa'Kage stripper, whatever you can think to make as an employment. The only restriction is that a drafter may not be considered 'mage' or a 'wetboy.' A bichrome is a drafter that can wield two colors on the color spectrum. A player may choose two colors from the seven available, found at the bottom of the page here. A bichrome can be a student, a teacher, a basic employee at the Chromeria, a Blackguard (explained in the same link), a government liaison, a Sa'Kage stripper, whatever you can think to make as an employment. The only restriction is that a drafter may not be considered 'mage' or a 'wetboy.'
Color Wight
Citizen
A Color Wight is someone who is going crazy because they have used too much luxin within their life span. You can identify a Color Wight by their eyes, their pupils will appear shattered and brightly colored. Color Wights are typically in hiding as if they are too far gone, Blackguards have once-upon-a-time been instructed to kill on sight. Color Wights in general are treated poorly. Players may not join a polychrome Color Wight, current Color Wights may only be Monochromes or Bichromes. You can find more information on all the 'chromes here

It is not recommended for a player's first character to be a Color Wight. Not because of any reason other than Color Wights naturally cause conflict because of what they are and we don't want you to think you're in an unwelcome environment because of the character-type and how other characters react to them.

Though you are welcome if you so choose.

A citizen is a basic, regular, human being living in this crazy world of potential war. Most humans are unaware about the war between either side, viewing the Chromeria in a positive light and the Sa'Kage in a poor one. Some humans live actively beneath the Sa'Kage's thumb in one way or another, some are lucky enough to afford the housing in Northern Lochstone, giving them a societal edge. Either way, no magic for them. Exposure to it can be pretty though! Look the colors Duke, the colors!
Psychics
A psychic is anyone with magical abilities that do not correspond to any of the aforementioned abilities (no Talented, no Drafter). They are human with special talents such as telekinesis, aportation, etc. The Sa'Kage and the Spectrum are highly seeking out these individuals in an attempt to gain an edge over the other regime, most of them are in hiding or taken captive by either side. A character may join with one of these abilities if they are not Talented or a Drafter.
Shapeshifters
A Shapeshifter is a character that has been externally infected by the same kind of symbiont that creates meisters. These creatures are unwelcome generally everywhere, but appear on both sides of the territories. Typically the more 'grotesque' or 'brutish' end up on the side of the Sa'Kage and the more 'beautiful' or 'regal' end up in the Chromeria. Black Prism's shapeshifters are not traditional, they are not moonswayed nor are they inherently infectious (they are not lycanthrope). It is the symbiont (vir) that chooses the victim. This class debuted October 2015.
If you join the Sa'Kage
If your character joins the Sa'Kage, they are typically a Talented, though many regular citizens (basic powerless humans) fall into the Sa'Kage territory too. Sometimes it's just easier living out in the open as a criminal! Congratulations! The Talented are more nature-oriented magic wielders. There are three classes of mage, and a unique affiliation for the Talent called a 'wetboy.' You can find detailed information on them with the Sa'Kage. (All links found below are the same link).

Drafters rely on the reflection of light off of specific colors, Talented rely on a metaphysical 'well' that fills inside them and empties as they use their magic. This well refills at various intervals, but typically it's a twenty-four hour span of magical rest.

So what kind of Sa'Kage?

Mage
Wetboy
There are several kinds of mages a character can be: Red, Green, Blue, Light Blue and White (and more releasing all the time). The mages are mostly connected to elements found in nature, or the typical attributes of their element. For example, Red mages are associated with fire and/or destruction. Not all Red mages can generate a flame, but those that can't can typically destroy something (the most often manifestation of this is making it decay, but feel free to have free reign on how your character generates their magic). A mage works typically as a task-handler to the Sa'Kage and the Guilds the Sa'Kage controls. While they don't typically work in the sex industry, that's not completely ruled out. Calling a wetboy an assassin is like calling a lion a kitten. Wetboys are Talent enhanced assassins. All wetboys have been taught by successful wetboys. They have been trained, mostly since childhood, on how to survive and dole out poisons, traps, various weapons, and use the Talent to assist their assignments. Some wetboys specialize, using exclusively poisons to complete assassinations, some wetboys use all of their talents--it's really up to the wetboy. More detailed information on wetboys.
Guild Members
Citizens
Guild Members can currently be associated with one of several guilds. Never more than one. While all are beholden to the Sa'Kage and 'work together' there is still an inherit sense of competition to be better than the other Guilds. Guild members tend to be criminals or underworld beings in some fashion. Thieves, regular human assassins, drug dealers, etc. Guild members can also be untrained or semi-trained drafters but there is usually more money in drafting for a drafter than crime. Furthermore, each guild specializes in a particular form of crime, you can see more information in the link provided. Either way, no magic for them. Exposure to it can be pretty though! Look the colors Duke, the colors!
Meisters
Psychics
A meister is a character whose well has been broken or corrupted causing it to become infected with Vir (a living form of magic that manifests on the skin). There are currently three kinds of Meisters. Ethos, Renaissance and Construct. Meisters use the Vir by consuming souls either already dead souls or they commit murder to harvest their power. This is up to the player and the character's personality. Meister's are beholden to the Sa'kage because they appear as yet another 'black mark' on society by the Chromeria. They also debuted September 2015 through on-site plot. Questions and Suggestions
You can find a FAQ, though as it stands now it's not very filled. But Delphi will always entertain questions or suggestions on how to better Black Prism's information. Is something too hard to understand? Is there a better way to explain it? Please let us know.

The Application
Once you've got that muse flowing, you can head on over to the application and grab the bio to start filling it out. We promise we will get you into play as soon as possible, but an application must be approved before you may begin playing. We're sorry about that, but due to the complex world some things may need to be altered to fit into this world. We also promise to try and make this as painless as possible.

Done
All of that done!? YAY! Welcome to Black Prism. We hope you find a fruitful home here! Thanks for joining us.
